Cultivating Soil (Compost) Workshop with Mat Ichech

For this month’s L.O.C.A. workshop takeover, we are hosting a workshop to facilitate a warm, community-led introduction to the many ways of which we can cultivate soil and thus the word and lands we dream to nourish. 

The workshop will generally be divided into three parts. The first is a presentation and conversation on the fundamentals of compost along with the different kinds of piles and home composting starter kits. The second part will be a more specific introduction and tour of Mat Ichech Gardens as a community compost hub where we will showcase our methods of composting, and how to contribute and/or support the work. Lastly, there will be an option for either a hands on demo on working a compost pile or another less intensive compost related activity. 

Shade and seating will be provided as the workshop will be outdoors. Some water and snacks will be provided.  The first 15 people can receive a 5 gallon bucket + 1 gallon kitchen container to take home and begin their composting journey!! 

Optional: Come prepared for a more complete work day after the workshop to connect with the space further if you feel so inclined. 

We recommend: field clothes, long trousers, sturdy (close toed) shoes, hat, sunscreen, water bottle. Otherwise, just come prepared for a sunny day!

Location: Mat Ichech Gardens located at 2004 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101.

Parking: Parking is limited in the driveway directly in front of the doors. Otherwise plenty of parking along Park Blvd and at the Inspiration Point parking lot across the street.
