Danza Coatlicue Cemilitzli
6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Founded in 2009, Danza Coatlicue Cemilitzli collectively chose their name, to mean “in harmony with Mother Earth”, as our goal is always to be in harmony and peace with each other and all creation. Coatlicue is a powerful goddess referred to as Earth Mother, or Serpent Skirt who embodies dualistic qualities experienced in natural life cycles. Coatlicue is both a nurturing mother and a destructive, generative force. Cemilitzli means to be in harmony or in balance.
Danza Coatlicue has made the Centro Cultural de la Raza its spiritual home for 15 years, although the founders have engaged in the danza tradition at the Centro since the mid 1990’s.
Our group honors Coatlicue and the feminine energy in all living beings. We are open to all genders and no danza experience is necessary to participate.
