CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
BEGINNING SALSA   (ADULTS)

Instructor:  Angie Calvin

This Class will teach basic footwork, footwork patterns, partnering, body movements and isolations. Each class is structured to adjust to one’s varied levels of dance experience and each class will introduce new materials or build upon those previously taught for review.

Angie Calvin started her formal training with local salsa company Majesty in Motion and is now currently dancing with an all ladies company called The Sexy Salsa Divas. She has been performing for the last 3 years at local events in San Diego and traveled to Los Angeles, Palm Springs, New York, Las Vegas to name a few. Blending her own unique style of Afro Cuban, Hip Hop and Brazilian movement, she continues to bring energy and “sabor” (flavor) to her life long journey in the Art of Salsa Dancing.

BOMBA – Puerto Rican Dance (KIDS/ADULTS)

Instructor: Areito Borincano

Bomba is a uniquely Puerto Rican musical genre for dance. Bomba emerged as a very important expression to the system of slavery and a form of spiritual strength. It's a family of rhythms and dances referred to by their names... (sica, yuba, holandes, seis corrido, etc).Dancers are essential to Bomba.  In this class dancers take turns challenging the drums, creating a dialog with their movements that the solo drummer answers in a call-and-response pattern with a lead singer and a chorus.

Areito Borincano (founded in 2001) is a non-profit organization based in San Diego dedicated to promote the culture of the island of Puerto Rico, by serving as ambassadors of its Afro-Puerto Rican dance and music (Bomba). The group helps preserve the tradition by offering classes and performances. The emphasis in the dance classes is to create new dance steps and body movements without losing the traditional feel of Bomba.
The members of Areito Borincano wish to expose more people to Bomba and are committed to encouraging more people to explore Afro-Puerto Rican heritage and traditions.

Rhythm Tap Technique

From there she went on to learn other disciplines such as tap, ballet, jazz, modern and hip-hop.
