President

Laurie Burgett Laurie Burgett is a San Diego native and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University. She has worked as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Manager of Design Layout/Drafting and Computer-Aided Design Systems, and currently serves as the manager of Combustion Engineering at Solar Turbines, Inc.

She has been an activist in a variety of community-related efforts including seven years of membership on the Greater Golden Hill Planning Committee, a past member of the San Diego Zoo Advisory Board and the South Park Action Council, and she often participates in executing events in her community of Golden Hill, such as the Old House Fair. She is presently on the Balboa Park Committee and acts as the Co-Chair of their Land Use and Strategic Planning Subcommittee. She is also an avid art collector and travels as much as possible.

VP Development

Ray Estolano is an eternally aspiring writer and a supporter of the arts, holds a bachelor degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a law degree (juris doctorate) from the University of San Diego. He is a partner in Abrigo and Estolano, a law office that focuses on Immigration, Family Law, and Criminal Defense. Before entering into private practice, Estolano worked for both the San Diego and Imperial County District Attorney's Office. ray@centroculturaldelaraza.org

Secretary

Paco Ibarra is an active volunteer at the Centro always lending a helping hand. He is an Independent Aflac Insurance Agent in San Diego County. Born and raised in Brawley, California he moved to San Diego to attend college.

After graduating from the University of San Diego with an Economics degree, he moved to San Francisco, California where his career began in institutional investment banking and trading. His interest in the arts grew while studying business in Guadalajara, Mexico and forging friendships with artists. He is an advocate for the individual artist and wants to be part of helping the Centro fulfill its mission. paco@centroculturaldelaraza.org

Christina Rodriguez Rios

Annie Ross, appointed to the Board in May 2007, received a master’s degree from UCLA and an
undergraduate degree from UCSB with additional studies at universities in Mexico, Spain, and France.
Her diverse background includes work as an arts writer/editor, librarian, Spanish software linguist,
special events coordinator, computer programmer, Spanish teacher, gallery assistant and ceramics
instructor, technical writer, and bilingual observer for the civil rights monitor. Currently she works
in the library at UCSD. Annie is a longtime community activist and contributes to events such as Chicano Park Day, Art Around Adams, the Adams Avenue Roots & Folk Festival, and the Adams Avenue Street Fair. She is an active member of the Chicano Park Steering Committee and the RedCalacArts Collective. annie@centroculturaldelaraza.org

Nancy Mendez, appointed to the Board in June 2007, has worked for California State Parks for more than 20 years. Nancy has worked on a number of exhibit development, interpretive planning, and museum collections management projects throughout the state, including the California State Indian Museum, the historic homes of Pío Pico and Will Rogers, and the new Los Angeles State Historic Park. Nancy is a member of the Museum Educators of Southern California, the California Association of Museums, and the National Association of Interpretation. Locally, she is involved with the San Diego Exhibit and Evaluators Group (SDEEG), an informal organization comprised of exhibit specialists and educators from San Diego’s museums, nature centers, historic sites, zoos, and aquariums. Nancy is currently serving as the lead of the Centro’s Permanent Collections Subcommittee.. nancymendez@centroculturaldelaraza.org
